Traffic in Copenhagen Affected During EU Summits

Read Time:1 Minute, 21 Second

On Wednesday, October 1st, and Thursday, October 2nd, Copenhagen will be the host city for two summits in connection with Denmark’s EU Presidency. This means changes in traffic and potential longer travel times through the city.

According to the police, heavy traffic can be expected, temporary no-parking zones, and rerouting of bus routes in various locations in the Inner City and on Amager. Travel time to the airport may also be longer due to escort convoys. The police urge commuters to leave early, use public transportation, and stay updated on any changes.

Several areas in the city will be cordoned off during the summits. On Hvidkildevej, there is partial closure at Grøndal Multicenter until October 3rd. At Bella Center, Center Boulevard is closed between Vejlands Allé and C.F. Møllers Allé from October 1st to October 2nd. On Slotsholmen, several streets, including Christiansborg Slotsplads, are closed from September 30th to October 1st. Amalienborg Slotsplads and surrounding streets are closed on October 1st.

At Copenhagen Airport, the highway to Terminals 2 and 3 as well as parking areas are expected to be open as usual, but police warn of possible congestion due to escort convoys. The metro and train services in Copenhagen are not expected to be affected.

The police remind commuters to yield if encountering an escort and, among other things, move to the right for emergency vehicles.

In connection with the summits, a temporary ban on all civilian drone flights in Danish airspace is in effect until October 3rd, 2025. The police will themselves use drones in the sky over Copenhagen as part of their efforts.
