Prince Joachim continues as Defense Industry Attaché in Washington D.C.
H.R.H. Prince Joachim will continue in his current position as Defense Industry Attaché and Deputy Defense Attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C. until the end of August 2027. The extension is part of Denmark’s continued focus on strategic cooperation with the USA.
This was announced by the Defense on Friday in a press release.
The USA is one of Denmark’s most important allies and a key partner in the defense industry. Cooperation plays a significant role in both the rebuilding of the Danish defense and in the ongoing support for Ukraine. With the decision to extend Prince Joachim’s assignment, Denmark aims to maintain and strengthen the transatlantic bond.
As Defense Industry Attaché, Prince Joachim reports to the Ministry of Defense, while in his daily work, he is under the authority of the Danish Ambassador in Washington D.C. He assumed the position on September 1, 2023, for a three-year period with the possibility of extension.
Previously, Prince Joachim served as Defense Attaché at the Danish Embassy in Paris from September 2020 until the summer of 2023. He was appointed Brigadier General in the Army on September 1, 2020.
The extension also means that Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, and their two children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, will continue to reside in Washington D.C., where the children also attend school daily.
