New donation package of 1.6 billion Danish kroner to strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry
Denmark is now increasing support to Ukraine with another comprehensive donation package.
Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen informed the Foreign Policy Committee on Friday about the 27th donation package, which includes an additional nearly 1.6 billion kroner earmarked to support the Ukrainian defense industry. Additionally, around 1.1 billion kroner is allocated for other donations.
The donation package is intended to contribute to the financing of drones, ammunition, and missiles – military equipment that Ukraine urgently needs. The funds will be channeled through the so-called Danish model, where Denmark increasingly supports direct purchases from the Ukrainian defense industry.
“Ukraine’s need for military support remains massive, and one of the best ways we can help is to contribute more to the Ukrainian defense industry. In this way, we ensure quick donations that can be used directly on the battlefield. And we know there is still untapped capacity in the Ukrainian defense industry. Therefore, we are allocating an additional nearly 1.6 billion kroner to the so-called Danish model today,” says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
The total Danish support through the Danish model now amounts to approximately 5.9 billion kroner for the period 2024-2027. So far, commitments for donations totaling around 18.5 billion kroner have been made through the model during the same period. A significant portion of these funds have been made possible through contributions from Denmark’s allies, especially the EU.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasizes the importance of directly supporting the Ukrainian defense industry:
“We best strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability by supporting the country’s own defense industry. I have just been to Kyiv and seen with my own eyes the difference the country’s weapons manufacturers are making. We are now investing in the Ukrainian companies that produce what Ukraine specifically needs.”
Donation package XXVII is financed through the Ukraine Fund. With this package, Denmark has decided to provide military support to Ukraine of around 70.3 billion kroner in the period 2022 to 2028.
