Green billion investments on the way – two projects to be located in the Copenhagen area

Nine companies will, with the help of the government’s green investment scheme, invest around 3 billion DKK in seven projects within Danish-produced wind turbines and Power-to-X technology. This investment aims to secure the establishment or expansion of production facilities in Denmark. Two of the projects will be located in the Copenhagen area: in Espergærde and Frederikssund.

Launched in 2024, the scheme aims to maintain and expand Denmark’s position in green technologies. The background is increased international competition, with countries such as China heavily investing in green industries. Through this scheme, companies can receive support for establishing and expanding production within wind technology, electrolysis technology, and related areas.

In Espergærde, Elplatek A/S is investing in a new specialized factory for surface treatment of components for electrolyzers and fuel cells. With the support from the investment scheme amounting to 6.6 million DKK, the company will build capacity to meet the expected growth in electrolyzer production. The project aims to strengthen the company’s position as a supplier to the green hydrogen industry in Scandinavia and Northern Europe. The factory is expected to be established between July 2025 and the end of 2027, creating up to 15 new jobs within specialized surface treatment processes. The project also involves collaboration with research institutions such as DTU.

In Frederikssund, Topsil Globalwafers A/S will establish two new production buildings for the production of ultra-pure FZ silicon used in power electronics for applications including wind turbines and electrolysis plants. With a support of 103.1 million DKK, Topsil will more than double its production capacity, powered by renewable energy from its own solar park. The project is expected to create around 54 new jobs and contribute to supply security within green technologies, quantum technology, and defense. The establishment will run from July 2026 to June 2029.

“-” The world has changed. China is moving ahead in the green sector with gigantic state subsidy programs. This calls for action, if Denmark and our green industry are not to fall seriously behind in the battle for future jobs. Therefore, we are now giving our green strength position a massive boost,” says Minister for Business Morten Bødskov.

Minister for Economic Affairs Stephanie Lose adds:
– “Good Danish companies contribute with solutions and new technologies to the green transition, both in Denmark and globally. The government wishes to maintain and develop this strong position.”
