40-year-old convicted of rape at Roskilde Festival
The Court in Roskilde has on Thursday convicted a 40-year-old man, who is a Romanian citizen, for raping a young woman at Roskilde Festival in June 2022.
The case has been under investigation since the summer of 2022, when a 22-year-old woman was subjected to a rape at the camping area of Roskilde Festival. The assault was interrupted when a witness arrived at the scene, after which the perpetrator fled.
A mobile phone was found at the scene, which along with DNA evidence and subsequent international cooperation between law enforcement agencies helped identify the now convicted man. He was arrested in Copenhagen in February this year and has been in custody since then.
The case was heard by the Court in Roskilde, where emphasis was placed on the fact that it was a rape with assault-like characteristics with multiple witnesses, and that the accused had given changing explanations during the case.
The 40-year-old was sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison, as well as deportation from Denmark with a permanent entry ban.
He received the verdict and remained in custody after the sentencing.
