Lars Løkke travels to Israel and Palestine
Today, the Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen is visiting Israel and Palestine.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The purpose of the visit is to meet with key figures in the region, including the Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and the Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa.
Meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders
During his stay in Israel, Lars Løkke Rasmussen will reiterate Denmark’s message that Israel should change its approach to the situation in Gaza. He will urge the Israeli government to lift restrictions on emergency aid and ensure the protection of hospitals, healthcare workers, and emergency aid workers in accordance with international obligations.
The Foreign Minister will also push for Israel to allow the evacuation of patients from Gaza to East Jerusalem, where they can receive treatment at secure hospitals.
Visit to a hospital in the West Bank
Part of the visit includes a trip to a hospital in the West Bank, where there is the capacity to treat many patients from Gaza if the necessary permits from the Israeli government are granted.
Reforms in the Palestinian Authority
In Ramallah, Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet with Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Here, he will urge the Palestinian Authority to continue implementing reforms, distance itself from Hamas, and hold elections.
-“Denmark has long called on the Israeli government to change course. I am now traveling to Israel to reiterate this directly to the Israeli Foreign Minister. I also look forward to meeting the Palestinian Prime Minister to appeal for the Palestinian Authority to intensify its work on the reforms needed for us to hopefully recognize Palestine in the not-so-distant future,” said Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
