PET and FE acknowledge: Samsam was a source
In a joint statement following the Supreme Court’s ruling today, PET and FE acknowledge that Ahmed Samsam worked for them during his trips to Syria in 2013 and 2015.
The Defense Intelligence Service (Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste), FE, and the Police Intelligence Service (Politiets Efterretningstjeneste), PET, have argued in the Supreme Court case that the Østre Landsret’s ruling of dismissal should be upheld, and argued that intelligence services are not obliged to publicly confirm or deny their capabilities and sources.
However, the Supreme Court disagreed and decided that this was a very special situation, and sentenced FE and PET to acknowledge that Ahmed Samsam worked for them.
In the statement from FE and PET, it states, among other things: “Based on the Supreme Court’s decision, PET and FE must acknowledge that Ahmed Samsam collaborated with the intelligence services during his trips to Syria in 2013 and 2014, and that he received payment and other benefits in exchange for providing information about Danish Syria fighters to the intelligence services.”
