The former Social Democratic minister, Henrik Sass Larsen, has been sentenced for possession of illegal images and video material depicting sexual abuse of children.

The sentence was handed down on Monday in the Copenhagen City Court.

The court sentenced Henrik Sass Larsen to four months of unconditional imprisonment for possession of over 8000 illegal images and videos. However, he was acquitted of possession of a child sex doll. The unique aspect of the doll was that the police did not seize it during the search of Henrik Sass Larsen’s home, so the only evidence the prosecutor could present in court was a blurry photo of the doll and witness statements describing it.

According to Henrik Sass Larsen’s explanation, he had downloaded the numerous images and videos as part of an investigation where he was supposed to act as a participant. Therefore, he argued that he should be acquitted due to material atypicity, meaning that the law was not intended to address a situation like the one described by Henrik Sass Larsen.

However, the court chose to disregard his explanation.

The defense has reserved the right to consider whether to appeal the case.
