Will Remove Taxes on Popular Items
The government plans to remove the tax on chocolate and coffee.
This was written by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, who is also the leader of the Venstre Party, on his Facebook page.
According to Troels Lund Poulsen, the chocolate tax and coffee tax together bring in 2.5 billion Danish kroner annually for the state.
Prices of groceries – including coffee and chocolate – have significantly increased in recent years, and the government believes that removing taxes on these two items can help the Danish population:
“It can help mitigate price increases and make it cheaper to buy coffee and chocolate. The government estimates that, for example, 500 grams of coffee could become around 6 percent cheaper.”
