The court in Nykøbing Falster will clarify if a case of rape and attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl can be settled as a confession case.

The rape and murder attempt took place on August 4, 1999, in Bøtø on Falster. The case was investigated, and a composite sketch of the perpetrator was released, but it did not lead to anything. The case, which had never been closed and has been continuously monitored, had a breakthrough with the new possibilities of DNA technology, especially in the field of genetic genealogy searches. This led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man on December 18, 2024 – more than 25 years after the incident. He was charged with the rape and attempted murder, and has been in custody since the arrest.

In June this year, the now 57-year-old man was indicted in the case.

On Wednesday, September 3, a court meeting will be held at the Court in Nykøbing Falster to clarify if the case can be settled as a confession case. If the case cannot be settled as a confession case, it is expected to be heard as a jury case at the Court in Nykøbing Falster, with the first trial date on September 8.
