A 27-year-old man from Greater Copenhagen has been detained, charged with, among other things, aiding attempted murder by misusing his position to access and post information from the CPR (Central Person Register) register.

The 27-year-old was arrested by the National Special Crime Unit (NSCU), who suspect him of misusing his access to the CPR register to obtain and sell confidential information. According to the police, the information was allegedly used in planning extortion and attempted murder within criminal circles.

The arrested individual, who previously worked for the City of Copenhagen, is not only charged with aiding attempted murder but also with extortion and disclosing confidential information under particularly aggravating circumstances.

NSCU has stated that through his previous position, the 27-year-old had access to CPR information which he allegedly misused to obtain specific addresses among other details. These details have been sold to criminal entities according to the charges.

Police Inspector Henrik Andersen stated that the man played a central role in enabling others to commit serious crimes: “We suspect that the 27-year-old played a necessary role in enabling others to commit multiple criminal offenses, including attempted murder. By leaking sensitive information for payment, he, according to our suspicions, facilitated other crimes to take place.”

The 27-year-old was brought before a preliminary court hearing in Copenhagen. The hearing took place behind closed doors with a court-imposed anonymity order. The court decided to detain the accused for four weeks.
