Lars Løkke met with his American colleague
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen met Monday with the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC.
During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasized that Europe has taken the lead in supporting Ukraine, providing nearly 70 percent of the total support today.
But, there is a need for the USA to continue their support for the Ukrainian defense efforts, including the special weapons capabilities that only the USA can provide in the short term.
The Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of further coordination across the Atlantic – for instance, in relation to the next sanctions packages against Russia.
The two ministers agreed to build on the positive momentum from the NATO summit.
They also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The Foreign Minister expressed hope that the American president would engage in discussions at the meeting with the Israeli president Netanyahu later on Monday.
This is the first time the two Foreign Ministers have met in person in Washington.
