The frigate Niels Juel is on its way to Greenland, where it will help strengthen the protection of the Kingdom.

This was announced by the Defense on the social media platform X.

During the journey, the crew will practice different scenarios, such as if there is a breach in the hull.

Niels Juel is a frigate in the Iver Huitfeldt class. It was built at the Odense Steel Shipyard (Lindø) and launched in 2011. It has a length of just under 139 meters and a width of just under 20 meters. Its draught is 5.3 meters. It is equipped with, among other things, machine guns, missiles, and torpedoes.

The frigate is named after the Danish-Norwegian naval hero, Admiral Niels Juel (1619-1697). Niels Juel was at one time the supreme commander of the Danish navy, where he achieved several victories against the Swedish archenemy, including during the Battle of Køge Bay where he defeated an otherwise superior Swedish fleet.
